The Cheap Ferret’s Top 15 PS3 Titles

Last week saw the release of the PlayStation 4 in North America, with the European release looming just a week away, and while I don’t personally own one yet since I’m waiting for more games to come out for the thing, I figured I’d tie in an entry to it all the same. I can’t offer any opinion on the new console, so here are my thoughts on the last generation.

Here are my top 15 PlayStation 3 titles. Feel free to argue with me about my terrible tastes, but I stand by this list no matter what anybody says. Some may feel there are missing entries here, but I either didn’t play them or they simply didn’t win me over as much as anybody else.

Straight Male Gamers

I asked for blog topics on Twitter (@TheCheapFerret), and I was handed this link by @augustgirl515.

She directed it to as a starting point for a post about poor representation of homosexual relationships in video games. However, I won’t be discussing that topic, since I feel that games don’t tend to be a great space for showing off romantic relationships at the best of times, straight or gay, so it’s not really an issue that’s crossed my radar much. However, it inspired another thing to talk about: the suggestion that games need to be aimed at the Straight Male Gamer.

I am a Straight Male Gamer, and quite frankly I wish the games industry would stop catering to the Straight Male Gamer. The obsession with this particular demographic has resulted in some pretty bland games, and sucked all imagination out of a lot of mainstream titles.

Gynophobic Gaming

I came across this article where the developers of upcoming sci-fi adventure game, Remember Me, discuss their issues with trying to find a publisher for their game.

The reason they struggled is pretty ridiculous. They were refused by numerous publishers just because the protagonist lacks a penis. That’s right, the games industry that still suffers from the stereotype of being a boys’ club is refusing to address this by increasing the number of female protagonists that female gamers are likely to identify with.
